Before Dan Murphy's, there was Daniel Francis Murphy, founder of Australia's largest liquor retailer and earliest wine club. Born in 1918 to a family that had been in the Australian liquor industry since 1878, Dan dedicated his life to wine, becoming a visionary and astute entrepreneur. When he opened his first store in Prahran, Melbourne in 1952, he changed the future of liquor retailing in Australia forever.
Today, Dan Murphy’s trailblazing spirit drives everything we do – from the layout of our 270+ stores to the expert advice and service of our team members. His legacy lives on with our aim to offer Australians the most extensive range at low prices.
