BWS Windradyne named Australia's best bottle shop

BWS Windradyne in Bathurst has been awarded Liquor Store of the Year. 

The prestigious accolade was announced at the Retail Drinks Industry Awards 2022 on Thursday evening, which are the peak national awards for Australia’s retail drinks industry. There were more than 300 nominations in total across the Liquor Store of the Year, and Large Format Liquor Store of the Year categories.

“We have won this award because we have a fantastic team in this store, who do an incredible job of creating memorable moments for our customers by delivering the BWS experience,” BWS Windradyne store manager Alissa Humphries said.

“The entire team is pumped and buzzing after the win. It’s incredible to be recognised on a national level,” she added. 

The awards are judged by a panel of leading industry experts. For the Liquor Store of the Year finalists, the judging process also consisted of a third-party mystery shop carried out by an independently appointed external company.

BWS acquired the store from D'Aquinos in November 2021. The store has since been refurbished to reflect the modern contemporary design of BWS, with a focus on local region range. 

“Customers love our great selection of local wines, in particular Tamburlaine and Angullong wines from Orange. Bathurst Grange Distillery gins are incredibly popular, as are the Pioneer Brewery range - in particular their Chocolate Milk Stout,” Alissa said. 

BWS Managing Director Scott Davidson said the whole team was excited about the stores’ huge achievement.

“Our Windradyne store is renowned for its inspiration merchandising and displays and warm regional hospitality. This is reflected in customer feedback that often quotes great range and very friendly customer service, and is a huge testament to Alissa and the entire team,” Scott said. 

The Retail Drinks Industry Awards are the peak national awards for Australia’s retail liquor industry, saluting the year-round efforts made by people and companies in our industry to succeed in business, through superior customer service, product knowledge and outstanding professionalism.
