Tamworth Dan Murphy’s Store Manager named Australia’s best

Dan Murphy’s Tamworth Store Manager Shanais Marcus-Hogue has been named the country’s Liquor Store Manager of the Year.

Shanais received the prestigious accolade at the Retail Drinks Industry Awards 2022 on Thursday evening, which are the peak national awards for Australia’s retail drinks industry. More than 80 other accomplished store managers from across the country had been nominated for the category.

“The win was certainly a surprise, I have been nominated a couple of times over the years, which is a huge achievement in itself considering this is a national award. The other finalists for this award are amazing leaders, each doing brilliant things for their brands and the liquor industry, so to win this award is incredibly humbling,” Shanais said. 

The awards are judged by a panel of leading industry experts. For the Liquor Store Manager of the Year awards, the panel evaluates the nominee’s leadership skills, commitment to continued development and overall success of the business. 

Shanais has been a Dan Murphy’s team member for 11 years, and started her career with the drinks retailer as a casual team member at Dan Murphy’s Armidale.  

“I didn't originally set out to work in the drinks industry but I'm certain it would be a difficult decision to leave! My team at Tamworth is made up of a wonderfully diverse bunch, with a can-do attitude who have been achieving amazing results in the last 12 months, with a bright future to continue doing so,” she added.  

Dan Murphy’s Managing Director Agi Pfeiffer-Smith said the whole team was excited about Shanais’ huge achievement.

“Our people are the most important part of our business, and Shanais continues to be an invaluable part of our store leadership team, and truly lives and breathes our values,” Agi said. 

The Retail Drinks Industry Awards are the peak national awards for Australia’s retail liquor industry, saluting the year-round efforts made by people and companies in our industry to succeed in business, through superior customer service, product knowledge and outstanding professionalism.

Dan Murphy’s West End in Sunshine (VIC) was awarded Large Format Liquor Store of the Year.
